AI for Textiles: The Future of the Clerici Tessuto Archive

Artificial Intelligence is transforming the textile industry, unlocking new possibilities in knowledge management, creative research, and customer relations. In a sector where historical memory and archival heritage represent a unique competitive advantage, AI technologies now offer the opportunity to make this legacy more accessible, searchable, and valuable in entirely unprecedented ways.

Clerici Tessuto has chosen to be a protagonist in this transformation by investing in the development of an intelligent search system for its textile archive. Based on multimodal AI, this solution allows users to query the digital archive through a conversational interface that interprets both text and images. The system delivers coherent, relevant results in significantly less time than traditional methods.

The project—initially titled “TEXPERIENCE – The AI Creative Assistant for the Textile of the Future” and subsequently renamed Lia—represents a concrete step toward integrating Artificial Intelligence into creative processes and the enhancement of the company’s heritage.

Project Objectives

This initiative was born from the ambition to elevate the Clerici Tessuto textile archive as a strategic asset, preserving and making accessible a wealth of knowledge accumulated over more than a century of activity.

A core objective is the formalization and transmission of historical know-how, ensuring that this expertise does not remain the domain of a few but becomes a shared resource for all creative profiles. The system enables new workflows that free up time and talent, while simultaneously enhancing the customer experience through more personalized and timely responses.

The project is identified by the code CUP H99J2500218008 and involves a total investment of €244,800.00, confirming the strategic importance of the initiative.

Collaboration with MADE

This journey of innovation was carried out in collaboration with the MADE Competence Center, as part of a structured project divided into industrial research and experimental development. The project falls under Mission 4 – Education and Research, Component 2, Investment 2.3, and is funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

The results achieved to date confirm the effectiveness of this approach: a significant reduction in research times, greater operational autonomy for creative teams, and the construction of a structured, traceable history for the benefit of the entire organization.
